The family has a spiritual and historic significance in Ladakh as their lineage has been uniquely blessed with the birth of the 11th Thiksey Rinpoche, the reincarnation of Stog Changsem Sherab Zangpo, who now heads Thiksey Monastery and leads the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) school of Tibetan Buddhism.
