This action packed itinerary has been planned to uncover the culinary secrets of some of the Memba tribe. Guests will sample dishes made by Tsering, who, on the surface is a homemaker and lives with her husband and son in a village in Mechuka, but is one of the few who knows all traditional recipes of her tribe.
One of her signature dishes is a Thukpa of corn and radish, called Oshum, made in a stone pot, that cooks on the stove for over 24 hours! Momos with Kho and red sauce (Chemmi), buckwheat pancakes with chhurpi (thats almost like cream cheese) and chutney, local rice and so much more!
Apart from experimenting with this cuisine and learning how to cook it, we have thrown in a visit to the monastery (with stunning views) and a gurudwara.
A note of caution: The road to Mechuka is under expansion and there are several road blocks along the way. Although the distance is just about 180 kms from Aalo, it will take the entire day to travel this stretch. Unfortunately, there is no other way to get to this hidden gem of Arunachal Pradesh.
Arunachal Pradesh is the largest State in the North Eastern part of India and is also home to immense diversity. While there are 26 recognised tribes and many sub tribes, the reality is that there are many more – each with their own language, culture and cuisine. Only 2 tribes amongst the Arunachali tribes is trying to get a written script.
This diversity is what you will experience on this trip, as you cross Adi villages and reach what could easily be the back of beyond.
