Bhutan Greens Open

EaseIndia Travel is delighted to host an epitome of precision and skill, where every swing tells a story and every putt defines glory!

As the sun stretches its golden fingers across the emerald tapestry of two meticulously manicured courses in Bhutan, we invite you to embark on a journey of golfing excellence – welcome to Bhutan Greens Open.

Why Bhutan

Bhutan offers some of the most exceptional and captivating golfing experiences. With its unspoiled environments and tranquil ambience, Bhutan’s golf courses are set against the backdrop of the stunning Himalayan Mountains. The combination of lush greenery, pristine air, and awe-inspiring mountain views creates a tranquil and picturesque environment for golfers.

Golf in Bhutan offers a unique blend of sport, culture, and natural beauty. With its stunning golf courses, panoramic views, and the preservation of traditional values, Bhutan has emerged as a captivating destination for golf enthusiasts seeking an unforgettable experience on and off the course.

Bhutan places a strong emphasis on environmental conservation and sustainability. Golf courses in Bhutan are designed with these principles in mind, ensuring that the natural beauty of the surroundings is preserved.

About the Two Golf Courses

We will host the event at two of Bhutan’s best golf course – the Royal Thimphu Golf Club (RTGC) and Drakpoi Golf Club.

The Royal Thimphu Golf Club, established in 1968, holds the distinction of being the oldest and most conveniently located golf course in Bhutan. Situated in downtown Thimphu, it finds itself in close proximity to the renowned Tashichho Dzong, a historically significant landmark and the seat of the Bhutanese government. The golf course is embraced by lush green pine forests and boasts panoramic views of snow-capped peaks. Adding to its allure, the Wangditse Monastery is perched atop the course, providing visitors with yet another captivating historical site.

Situated in Dechencholing, approximately a 20-25 minute drive from downtown Thimphu, lies the noteworthy Drakpoi Golf Club, the city’s second prominent golf course. Managed by Bhutan’s Armed Forces, this impressive 9-hole course presents a formidable challenge to golfers. Carved into a near-vertical mountain, it boasts a stunning backdrop of awe-inspiring panoramic vistas. Adjacent to the golf course is a significant Buddhist monastery, where the enchanting sounds of monks chanting and playing trumpets on auspicious days create a truly unique and memorable experience.

Strict Dress Code

It is essential to be aware that all golf courses in Bhutan have a strict dress code, requiring proper golf attire, and shorts are not permitted. One of the notable aspects of golf in Bhutan is the preservation of the country’s unique cultural values. Golfers, both Bhutanese and international, adhere to appropriate dressing norms while on the course. This typically includes trousers, collared shirts without buttons, a coat or jacket, golf shoes or sneakers, and a cap. Attire such as mountain boots, jeans, slippers, half pants, skirts, and tight clothing is not allowed during play. This commitment to upholding cultural values not only adds credibility to the sport but also enhances the overall experience for golf enthusiasts, providing a truly remarkable and culturally immersive journey.

The Itinerary

– First stop – the beautiful Buddha statue that has become synonymous with Bhutan.

– Visit the Takin Reserve after this. This is where Bhutan’s national animal, the Takin can be seen in a sanctuary.

– Spend the evening exploring the main street called Norzin Lam. Back to the hotel for briefing about the next two days of Golf.

11 April – Day 03

– Day of Golf followed by lunch.

– Players and guests head back to hotel to relax and to get ready for the evening.

– In Paro, guests can visit the oldest monastery in Bhutan called Kichyu Lhakhang and the stupa like unique monastery called Dungtse, the one that has no lights inside.

– Guests may have a relaxed evening roaming the main street or explore Bhutan’s only microbrewery located a stone’s throw from the hotel. Their Red Rice beer is worth sampling.

– Overnight in Paro.

13 April – Day 05

– Guests may choose one of these two options today –

a) Hike up to Bhutan’s most iconic monastery, the Tiger’s Nest. It is best to leave hotel around 7:00 AM, since drive to the base of the monastery will take about 30 mins. The hotel will give packed breakfast as per choice (parathas, sandwiches etc.)

– The hike to Tiger’s Nest will take about 3 hours up and about 2 hours down. Guests will be constrained to have lunch at the mid-way cafeteria. Their buffet lunch comprises rice, dal, veggies, noodles, tea/coffee etc.

b) Take a drive across Bhutan’s highest motorable Pass called Chele-La and down to Haa valley, Bhutan’s most pristine (it opened up for tourists in 2008). The drive is about 3 hours long and a homecooked meal at a traditional homestay in Haa is a highly recommended experience. Choice of meats, and/or vegetarian options can be conveyed to the hosts in advance.

– Post lunch, we would recommend taking the famous hot stone bath at a Bhutanese home. This invigorating bath is taken in a wooden tub where riverbed stones heated on an open fire are dunked into the tub at one end. The water, replete with minerals of the stones is said to have curative and healing properties.

– Dinner would be organised at the homestay with a cultural programme and bonfire. Overnight in Paro.

14 April – Day 06

– Departure from Paro with fond memories of a cherished trip.
