The trip is in June 2023. The trip is ideal for those seeking to explore and uncover this hidden gem of India and for photography enthusiasts as well. The trip includes Goncha festival (to be held on 20 June) and dates have been planned accordingly.

TRAVEL PLAN

17 June – Day 1 :

– Arrival in Jagdalpur, the district headquarters of Bastar.

Our Services Begin

– After your arrival, we will take you to a hotel to have lunch. This will be a simple fare with a set menu with both non-veg and veg options.

– After lunch, head to the hotel and check in.

– After a quick check in and freshening up, we will go to Bastar Palace. The once ruling dynasty of Bastar lives in these premises. Visit the front gallery to see the photographs of all the former ruling kings and the earlier golden days.

– We will end the day with a trip to the Dalpat Sagar (lake) that holds a significant place in the history of Jagdalpur. Listen to the stories of the Bastar king to know the importance of Dalpat Sagar in the lives of local people.

– Dinner in-house. Overnight at Jagdalpur..

18 June – Day 2:

– After breakfast, we will check out of the hotel and visit the Narayanpal temple.

– Off the many unexplored beauties of Bastar, Tamda Ghumar marks its presence very silently. Greenery of the surrounding areas with beautiful rocky structures and a plunging waterfall, what more could one ask for as a treat!

– The Mehndri Ghumar waterfall is equally enthralling.

– Later we will visit a Bison Horn Madiya village and enjoy their dance as well.

– Lunch would be organic tribal fare that would include red ant chutney and bamboo shoot.

– Dinner in-house and overnight stay at Dandami Luxury Resort.

19 June – Day 3:

– Start your day with exploring the Chitrakote waterfalls, right across your hotel. These falls are called India’s Niagra.

– After breakfast, check out and head to visit the three tiered Tirathgarh Waterfalls. Tirathgarh also has a historical significance. Rejuvenate your senses with the view of this cascading beauty.

– The Dhurwa tribe is considered as one of the bravest tribes of Bastar for their primitive hunting styles. Kanger Valley National Park has the largest habitat of Dhurwa tribe.

– After the waterfall, we will have a local tribal lunch.

– Then we’ll head to a local market. Organic grains and indigenous seeds are the major points of attraction in the market. You would also come across some of the beautifully woven bamboo baskets and belmetal handicrafts. Cockfight is another major attraction of the market as it is an integral part of tribal culture. Also you’d be able to see the processing of mahua products here.

– Later we will see indigenous craft making called Belmetal.

– Check into hotel at Jagdalpur. Dinner in-house. Overnight at Jagdalpur.

20 June – Day 4:

– After breakfast, set off on a Heritage tour of Barsoor and Dantewada.

– Enroute we will be able to see Memory Pillars, a distinct part of the tribal culture in Bastar. It will be fun to decipher one of them.

– Once a capital of the many ruling dynasties, Barsoor, is a place of great historical significance. Situated on the banks of river Indravati, Barsoor, gained its importance in the 7th century. Since then it has been the witness of power and authority of many rulers.

– We will visit the temples of Barsoor, with its exemplary pieces of architecture, to relive its grandeur and the museum of Barsoor to have a glance at the archaeological evidence of its rich cultural heritage.

– The lifeline of Bastar – river Indravati divides itself into seven distributaries to form Sathdhara Waterfall. The captivating aura of this place cannot be transcribed in words but has to be experienced.

– Later we will drive to Dantewada which is renowned as one of the 52 Shaktipeethas of India.  Danteshwari Temple at Dantewada is a must visit. Danteshwari Devi, the presiding deity of Bastar is revered by locals. Know about the legendary tales of this temple and visit to the confluence of two rivers. Know the importance of Bhairambaba in the history of the place.

– Lunch at highway eatery.

– Later, we will drive back to Jagdalpur and attend the Goncha festival. We’ll see the Rath Yatra (like the one in Puri) and tupki (mock weapon) firing, traditions that are more than 600 years old.

– Dinner in-house and overnight at hotel in Jagdalpur.

21 June – Day 5:

– After breakfast, check out of the hotel and keep the luggage in the lobby after which we will visit a museum.

– The history of any place can be very well understood by visiting its museums. Get in touch with the rich historical importance of traditional arts and lifestyle of tribals of Bastar at the Anthropological Museum. Also enrich your interests in the cultural heritage of tribals of Bastar by visiting the Archaeological Museum.

– We will also visit Amcho Bastar Bazaar to buy some of the handicrafts and local food products of Bastar to gift as souvenirs to your family and friends. Also the famous Kosa Silk of Bastar can be bought from Kosa Centre.

– After lunch, head to the airport for your flights back home.

2. Tribal lunches will be simple fares. Non veg can be made available on request.

3. There are no ‘star’ hotels in Bastar. We have chosen the two best properties in both places

As of now, the best route to reach Jagdalpur by air is to take a hopping flight via Hyderabad. Hyderabad to Jagdalpur and back flight schedule is as follows:

Hyderabad to Jagdalpur (Alliance Air) – 11:05 AM departure; 12:35 PM arrival

Jagdalpur to Hyderabad (Alliance Air) – 4:00 PM departure; 5:35 PM arrival

Other than Hyderabad, Jagdalpur is connected to Raipur and Vishakhapatnam through direct flights.
