We are thrilled to bring you this short and exciting getaway to a lesser known part of Arunachal Pradesh, made famous by a music festival by the same name!
Why Join this Tour
Ziro is a stunning valley located at 1688 meters above sea level and is the home to the Apatani tribe. Ziro is famous for its surrounding pine-clad gentle hills and its rice fields and is in the the Tentative List for UNESCO’s World Heritage Site for the Apatani cultural landscape.
The Apatani’s are known predominantly for the face tattoos on women, a practise that has stopped and only a few women in their 60s and 70s can now be seen with the same.
This trip has been planned to participate in one of the Apatani festivals called Dree. It is an agricultural festival that is celebrated to bring a good harvest. The Apatanis pray to four gods: Tamu, Harniang, Metii, and Danyi.
The festival includes sacrificial offerings, such as rice beer, cucumber, and roasted meat. Women also prepare beer from rice and offer it to their family members as a token of love.
