LGBT Travel Safety Tips

Although most of India is still new to this, we provide certain guidelines to ensure a smooth and enjoyable travel experience for LGBTQ+ couples.
  • Public Displays of Affection

Be mindful that public displays of affection, even among straight  couples, are generally discouraged in India. Avoid mistaking close physical intimacy among Indian men as a sign for PDA with your same-sex partner.

  • Accommodation Choices

Opt for 4 or 5-star hotels where staff are more likely to be indifferent to perceived sexuality. Global brands like The Lalit, Four Seasons, Aman Resorts, and Marriott, as well as luxury Indian hotel groups, are actively welcoming LGBTQ+ guests.

A Little Modesty Goes a Long Way

Remember, India is a conservative country. A sense of modesty will serve you well, especially in rural areas. Lesbian couples who do not present in a gender non-conforming way can travel with more ease.

Many tour operators report that being gay is simply a non-issue in India. However, same-sex couples and heterosexual couples are advised to avoid PDA, particularly in conservative rural locations.
