We give you 5 ideas to make this Pune winter even better with your family and friends!
Winter is here and the nip in the air is palpable!
Pune is such an ideally suited city for activities throughout the year (barring the 2-3 summer months), because of its largely salubrious weather and its location, in the foothills of the mighty Sahyadris!
Over the years, and through word of mouth, we have discovered that there are 5 distinct activities you can undertake as a resident of Pune and make the most of the winter!
We are sharing these with you to help you make your winters even better!
- Visit Bhigwan Bird Sanctuary
- Weekend Break in a Vineyard
- Star Gazing in Panshet
- Winter Treks
- Paragliding
Visit Bhigwan Bird Sanctuary
Did you, in your wildest dreams imagine that you could see the Flamingos near Pune? No?
Well, you can!
Bhigwan is a small town situated around 105 Km from Pune on the Solapur highway. The backwaters of Ujjani dam has become a breeding ground of migratory birds, so much so that Bhigwan is called the Bharatpur of Maharashtra!
Best time – December to February
Weekend Break in a Vineyard
Maharashtra is blessed with wineries and a 4-5 hours drive from Pune takes you to the perfect weekend break from your busy lives. This winter take a weekend trip to Nashik’s vineyards, have a sip of wine, relax and enjoy the scenic sunset view.
There are almost 50 vineyards in Nashik and some of the vineyards have tasting rooms open to the public. Some of the more popular vineyards are –
SULA Vineyard
York Vineyard
Grover Zampa
Reveilo
A few of them also run their own resorts and offer packages for stay and wine tasting as well.
Star Gazing in Panshet
One of the best things about Pune is that barely 40 kms out of the city, you can reach a spot that is ideal for start gazing – which means there is very little ambient light from the city!
Panshet is ideal for star gazing and astronomy as it also has many camping sites where you can get good food, a large area to chill out with family, especially children, and enjoy gazing at the stars!
We can’t think of a more ideal weekend getaway. Can you?
Winter Treks
Maharashtra is a blessed land when it comes to hiking!
The Sahyadris have innumerable hidden gems for hiking enthusiasts as well as forts that can be scaled on a Sunday morning. Couple this with a stayover in one of the beautiful resorts dotting the landscape (at Kamshet, Pavana and many more) and lo behold! You have the perfect break to enjoy the picturesque view and nature.
Paragliding
Not many new residents of Pune are aware that the city has a popular paragliding spot in Kamshet (just 45 kms away). You can undertake a tandem flight (where the trained and certified instructor flies with you) so you can experience the magic of soaring high amongst the clouds!
Companies in Kamshet also offer paragliding courses for the more adventurous.
5 activities, 5 ideas, 5 different experiences! Hope you can make the most of this winter with these insights! All the best!
