The Festival of Naked Dance

(November 2019)

Bhutan is famous for its festivals - a time when young, and old, and rich and poor, come together to watch monks performing dances in Monasteries.
These festivals have deep religious and spiritual significance for the Bhutanese that are held across the districts in Bhutan.

Jambay Lhakhang Festival

To be held between 13-16 November 2019, the highlight of this three day festival is the scared naked dance known as Ter Cham and Mewang-the fire blessing.

The sacred naked dance is performed at midnight and people are not allowed to take the photographs.

A fire dance or Mewang is held in the evening to bless the infertile women so that they may bear the children.
