Top 7 Destinations On My List

Everybody’s got an explorer in them. The urge to travel and experience new places, cultures and cuisines is something that we are born with.
Ever since I was a kid, reading books, watching television and browsing the internet, my thirst to travel the world grew exponentially.
Someday, I hope to be able to visit every country that this planet is home to.
So, here I am, taking a moment to visit my travel Bucketlist: Top 7 Destinations.
Before I begin, I must explain the factors that influenced my picks for the top 7 destinations:
Their history fascinates me.
Would love to experience and observe their culture.
These places are home to my top favourite cuisines.
Here I go!

Japan

My grandma used to tell me that there was a time when my grandfather travelled to Japan. As did my father when he was a Captain in the Merchant Navy, him along with my mum and elder sister. I used to look at the photographs and wonder what their experience must’ve been like. The people didn’t seem different at all in the photographs, life seemed similar to the ones that we lived here in India. But that didn’t curb my curiosity and my desire to someday visit that enchanting nation filled with numerous classical Buddhist temples, as well as gardens, imperial palaces, Shinto shrines and traditional wooden houses. Needless to say, Sushi is my top favourite from the Japanese Cuisine, the Sashimi, the Maki and the Nigiri to be exact.

Italy has forever peaked my interest with its couture and cuisine, not to forget its fascinating history. Once the homeland & metropole to the Roman Empire, home to the House of Medici, home to legendary artists such as Raphael, Botticelli, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci & Titian, home of pasta and pizza, which I so infinitely love.

Bhutan

The Kingdom of Bhutan, a neighbour of India, is yet another country that I have been wanting to visit. A nation that prides itself in being carbon-negative and prioritises happiness rather than monetary gains as its status quo, surely gets my attention. The culture maintains its authenticity, true to their origins, even with all the modern progress the people have made as a whole. Being the foodie that I am, I have attempted to recreate delicacies from their cuisine, I must admit probably failing miserably. Things that I would love to try as when I get to Bhutan is: Hoentay, Phaksha Paa, Ezay and Jaju Soup.

Turkey

I guess it’s safe to assume that everybody read about the Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman Empire in their history lectures through middle school. It was during those years that I found myself drawn to their history. Even now, present day Turkey still radiates the influences of the various cultures that have evolved there over the centuries. The food is divine, of course again I’ve only been attempting to cook from recipes I find on the internet or cookbooks, but I love the Mezze, Dolma, Döner and Karniyarik.

Of course the French Renaissance, a.k.a. pan-European Renaissance, also plays an important role in my why I choose France to be 1 of my top 7 destinations. This nation has injected art into everything, c’est j’adore! The mass of museums and fine-dine restaurants that this country offers would truly be an euphoric experience for me

A kingdom that once ruled almost the entire world through its colonies and influence; my fascination lies in their history, their food, the diverse communities among the people, the lifestyles. The food is mostly simple flavours, but it appeals to me all the same. My favourites are: Shepherd’s Pie, The Full English Breakfast, Beef Wellington, Scotch Eggs, Welsh Rarebit, Bubble & Squeak.

South Korea

This country happens to be among top 7, purely cause of my exposure to Koreans through high school. The school I was studying was quite populous with pupils of Korean nationality. In my classroom itself, we’d 7 Korean students, 7 out of a total class strength of 21. In their company, I experienced them to be a charming, fun and hilarious people. And their cuisine #OMG, I love it; especially the Korean Kimchi, which I prefer any day to the other Asian varieties. Ever since then, I’ve hoped to travel to Seoul and a few other places.
